"I read about Alessia in The Irish Times, and the first thing that really came across to me was the images of the freedivers holding their breath underwater. They were behaving more like seals and dolphins than people. I thought, 'I've never seen this before. I don't know if anybody else has either, and I certainly think it could be amazing to see on the big screen." So says Laura McGann, director of THE DEEPEST BREATH, on how she first came to the story of the film.

In THE DEEPEST BREATH, Italian freediver Alessia Zecchini trains to break a world record with the help of Irish expert safety diver Stephen Keenan. The film follows the paths they took to meet at the pinnacle of the freediving world, documenting the rewards and risks of chasing a dream through ocean depths. It's an adventure story, a love story, and a nature story breathtakingly intertwined into one.
